Shop Your Own Home – Repurposing Décor

When we’re decorating rooms or spaces in our home, one of the first things we tend to do is look to purchase new items. But have you ever shopped your own home? Sounds crazy right? It’s actually a great concept and if done correctly could save you a ton of money.

Take for example this wall art, it was originally in our dining room, but we decided to make a panel grid accent wall in the dining room and this particular wall art would not be appropriate to hang on the accent wall. Rather than putting the wall art away or in storage, our next thought was where else can we hang this beautiful piece.

Allen and decided that this area above the kids table was be an excellent new home to this bare wall! And it saved us money from searching for another art piece to place on this wall. WIN-WIN!

Now let’s think about this for a second, yes you can repurpose items like art, pillows, accents, etc. But also remember things like old furniture that’s outdated, such as night stands, floor mirrors, dressers, tables, wall art frames…. a nice coat of spray paint will go a long way and can give these items a fresh new look. Talk about a transformation!

Challenge yourself to get creative, switch around curtain panels in different rooms, switch around area rugs in different rooms, style your book shelf differently, re-arrange the furniture you already have, change your hardware on cabinet door pulls (as oppose to changing cabinetry), and the list goes on.

The point is to get you to think outside the box on the different things you can do by simply shopping your home, so before you get the itch to go buy new things, take a look around, pull a rug from the basement, re-paint a floor mirror, re-arrange your book shelve vignette and I’m sure that will do the trick. Room transformation for a nominal cost to you. You can thank me later!
