Truth About The Corporate Life: Insider Tips on How You Can Make It

On paper, corporate life is defined by the glam of power suits, the appeal of fancy job titles, and the good pay.

In reality, corporate life calls for a dynamic that tests one’s capacity to connect with people, work with people, and deliver performance that helps and impresses people.

I believe corporate life comes with practical lessons on how to succeed at work and in life when lived with true intent.

As someone who has worked in the corporate world for decades, I have picked up corporate truths and traditions that have helped me stay in and win the game.

I have powerful corporate tips for you if you are aspiring to climb the corporate ladder or want to leap progress in your corporate journey, I have powerful corporate tips for you.

First, people skills are the competitive factors to progress.

Connecting with people, leveraging your network, influencing, and positioning are skills that will really push you further.

In the corporate world, success is accomplished through groups. I am not just talking about completing projects and plans. If you want to move forward, bring people with you.

These people can enrich what you already know, influence you to be better, and even vouch for you (something that can increase your trust value).

Second, add value

all the time.

The most thriving corporate relationships in my corporate experience are those built in mutualism.

If you’re aiming to succeed in your corporate journey, you need to provide value to your group and the people you work with.

Providing value entails giving your best, assisting those who might be struggling, and dedicating your time and talents to accomplish goals.

Trust is earned when people in your team can trust you to provide input and deliver results - so make sure to add value as much as you can.

Third, perception over performance. Your brand is your net worth.

When you are working in a diverse global company with different cultures, people process information and filter it differently. Unfortunately, perception is reality - how they see you and perceive you matters. Your brand is your personal net worth, so make sure you build one with trust, competence, and value as its foundation.

Fourth, work hard - sooner or later, your go-getter mindset will make things work out for you.

Don’t assume that things will just happen for you just because you’re doing a great job. Continue building your brand, and start forming a strong network of influential leaders, mentors and sponsors.

Your brand and the people you’re working with can make you the top of mind when an awesome opportunity comes along.

But remember, building that network takes work, you must nurture it and perform your job at an exceptional level simultaneously.

Fifth, exceptional performance can compensate for mistakes.

We’re human, and we’re bound to make mistakes. Most corporate workers worry that their mistakes will cost them their jobs.

It’s true - messing up a deal or making a colossal blunder can cost you your job, but minor mistakes can have a pass especially when the company sees you as an invaluable asset.

I’m not saying you will compromise the standard of your work. I am - however - emphasizing that minor mistakes can be compensated when you are a great team player who performs beyond expectations.

Lastly, don’t fall into the trap of mediocrity and complacency.

When everything is going smoothly, some tend to get comfortable and complacent. Don’t let that be you. Keep thriving, challenging yourself, learning, and growing - if you want to be a c-suite executive and not on the verge of pushing a cane when you get there.

Constantly take on a job with the same enthusiasm and drive you showed when you just started.

The corporate life offers tremendous opportunities for growth and success. Make the most out of it - a corporate life lived with excellence can change your career path in ways you have never imagined!

Keep my tips in mind - they will come in handy!
